Staff Accountant I

The Staff Accountant at Colorado Mechanical Systems LLC is part of the general and technical accounting team of a collaborative and growing organization. This role will be responsible for the supporting the general accounting activities to include month end processing, daily cash activity, fixed assets, reconciliations and analytics. Job Description:

  • Processing journal entries at month end to ensure financials are properly stated within GAAP
  • Various month end allocation entries
  • Enter daily cash activity into ComputerEase
  • Process credit card activity and reconcile
  • Support Assistant Controller in Sales/Use Tax reporting
  • Perform reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Support during audit/review/tax process with external auditors
  • Provide ad hoc support to the organization as needed

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs standard accounting tasks such as recording entries to the general ledger, expense analysis and compliance with internal controls
  • Maintain a timely, accurate and efficient accounting close on a monthly basis
  • Monitors and enters daily cash activity in the bank to ensure accurate balance in the general ledger
  • Prepares month end journal entries and analysis to include payroll related accruals, vendor accruals, prepaid amortizations and any other general accruals for financial accuracy and completeness
  • Record weekly inventory activity
  • Perform monthly allocations and analysis on fuel, vehicle maintenance and overhead costs
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations monthly
  • Manage Fixed Assets schedule and depreciation entry
  • Participate in the development, enhancement and review of accounting processes and policies
  • Partner cross-departmentally to understand expenses and support information flow



  • Four-year degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years in a general accounting role
  • Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Handle confidential information in a discreet professional manner.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to meet deadlines with being detailed oriented.
  • Flexible and can-do attitude with preference toward collaborate to find solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail.
