Purchasing Agent

This role is responsible for executing the quoting, sourcing, and delivery of products and services to our Foreman, Superintendents, Project Managers. The Purchasing Agent is responsible for determining best overall value for the company for each purchase order and ensure we are meeting project requirements. This Purchasing Agent position will report to the Director of Procurement.

Job Description

Purchasing Agent Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process and fulfill material requisition sheets from Foreman and Project Managers verifying best possible price, while making sure suppliers are meeting the required on-site dates.
  • Sends out RFQ’s for buyout opportunities on commodities for all the CMS related trades
  • Prepares and manages purchase orders.
  • Facilitates bulk project buyouts. Prepares tag and hold orders and releases orders to projects as requested by the Foreman and/or Project Manager
  • Continually informs the Director of Procurement of pricing trends noticed within each product category
  • Follows all company buying agreements to ensure we are conforming to company standards pertaining to project requirements and/or specifications.
  • Works closely with A/P and Project Management in resolving invoice discrepancies with vendors. Troubleshoots, then remits invoices for payment within the mutually agreed upon payment terms.
  • Always striving to limit waste, while minimizing the need for returns on materials

Knowledge, Skills and requirements include, but are not limited to

  • Knowledge of purchasing processes related to the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of pipe, valves, fittings, sheet metal, and hardware needed for plumbing and mechanical systems
  • Ability to negotiate best possible pricing, and decipher best overall value for goods and services need for projects
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have strong knowledge of Microsoft excel spreadsheets, word, outlook and competent with other basic software
  • Ability to analyze budget versus actual costs and provide feedback to estimators and/or Project Managers prior to issuing large purchase orders to suppliers
  • Establishing and maintaining vendor relationships
  • Other duties as assigned
