Logistics Manager

The Logistics Manager will have ownership of the below listed categories. He/she must deal with the operational flow of these categories while continually identifying new and more efficient methods of the logistics process(s) specific to Colorado Mechanical System (CMS). The Logistics Manager must have strong organizational skills, computer skills, interpersonal skills, written & verbal communication skills, and problem solving skills. Be a company liaison for all below categories.

Job Description


Areas to Manage

  • Tool distribution and tool tracking
  • Fleet management – This includes all CMS owned trucks, vans, trailers, scissor lifts, duct hoists, mini ex, and anything owned by CMS that needs standard maintenance
  • Transportation – Load, schedule deliveries, and coordinate all logistics for the company
  • Receiving dock – traceability of equipment and orders shipped to the CMS dock
  • Outside rentals tracking

Tool Distribution and Tool Tracking –

  • Contribute heavily to the creation and implementation of best practice tool room vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
  • Keep the tool room cleaned and organized at all times, always ensure tools are safe, operable, and ready for use prior to sending to remote projects
  • Properly tag, track, and manage all CMS tools & equipment, log all transfers in CMS tracking software – the day the transfer happens
  • Assist in budgeting for current, and future tool needs to properly inform leadership of upcoming needs
  • Provide weekly reports to project teams (PM’s and Foreman) on status of tools checked out to their specific projects. Continually request tools to come back to the shop for use on other projects, when applicable.

Fleet Management –

  • Oversee all aspects of CMS owned fleet, including but not limited to company vehicles and major equipment
  • Ensure all CMS owned equipment is maintained properly, keep records of preventative maintenance requirements, and anything to do with properly maintaining CMS fleet
  • Ensure all CMS fleet and equipment is utilized prior to using 3rd party vendors
  • Contribute to overall vehicle purchasing strategy – present data and take into account operating costs, fuel efficiency, insurance costs, depreciation factors, anything to do with overall cost of each vehicle
  • This position will make use of fleet management software to regulate data collection and recording procedures which helps in monitoring vehicle performance
  • Enhancing or creating fleet policies and/or procedures, which include assigning of vehicles to drivers and managing accident reports
  • Assist in budgeting for current, and future fleet needs to properly inform leadership of upcoming needs for CMS fleet

Transportation –

  • Plans, organizes and manages the workflow of staff (Drivers) to ensure that the work is accomplished within CMS requirements
  • Serves as a logistics contact person for all Foreman, PM’s, or Sup’s within CMS
  • Collaborates with other managers and staff members in order to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives specific to transporting material and equipment
  • Continually make sure that everyone on staff is properly trained in all safety measures while in the warehouse and on the road
  • Verify that all deliveries and/or returns have intent of trucks being loaded to full capacity, minimizing small loads, utilizing alerts to Project Foreman when CMS delivery trucks are in the area of their project, and pick up anything that needs to come back to the CMS main office. Minimize and/or eliminate dead loads back to the main office

Receiving Dock

  • Manage all incoming shipments including, but not limited to unloading, storing safely, covering, and properly tracking
  • Ensure shipping and receiving area is clean and tidy at all times
  • Create a tracking sheet to continually inform project teams of received material. Always remaining persistent to get things shipped out to projects, and off of our main office dock
    • Log and track all orders received and continually update Foreman and Project Managers of what has been received and accounted for on their project
  • Check and verify for undamaged freight, prior to unloading trucks. Utilize packing lists to verify and document that everything on the packing slip, is what we are signing for
  • Continually maintain best use of space in our dock area, always looking for the most efficient use of our limited space

Outside Rentals Tracking

  • Manage everything to do with 3rd party rentals for CMS – Own the process
  • Track on/off rental confirmations for all CMS rentals. Update and monitor CMS rentals tracking sheet – daily
  • Continually monitor and verify costs are correct for all 3rd party rentals.
  • Create ways to fully utilize rental equipment on a contract by contract basis. Know and understand when rates will default to longer terms and/or charges
  • Manage billing cycles and inform Foreman
  • Inform Project Managers and Foreman of all current rentals on their site(s) – always monitor and motivate call offs as soon as possible to reduce cost on 3rd party rental charges

Monitor and approve repairs to rentals prior to repair being authorized.  When damage is caused on a CMS project
