Field Operations Manager (FOM)

The Field Operations Manager (FOM) is responsible for leading the field organization to a safe, efficient, and profitable result on all new install projects. It requires leadership in managing cross-functional teams with an emphasis in defining and achieving goals while engaging all levels of management. The FOM practices a continuous high level of communication; internally with other CMS team members, AND more importantly, externally with our customers. The FOM works collaboratively with the Operations Manager, Project Managers to assist and/or mitigate situations as they arise from time to time with any given project and any given client. The FOM reports directly to the General Manager of CMS.

Job Description


  • Work collaboratively with the Safety Manager to drive a culture of safety into the field organization
  • Manage day to day operations to assure efficient field operations
  • Forecast and maintain field staffing levels as needed to achieve project schedules
  • Work with HR and Recruiting on staffing needs
  • Responsible for all field QA/QC efforts
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement measures into the field organization
  • Ensure employees understand all job duties, associated tasks and hold them accountable
  • Follow all company policy and procedures
  • Hold staff accountable to company policy and procedures
  • Develop employees thru coaching sessions, annual reviews, and career planning
  • Facilitate training as needed for staff development
  • Conduct/participate weekly meetings with Project Managers, General Superintendents, and Superintendents to review/discuss project scheduling and manpower needs
  • Prepare for and attend Cost To Complete (CTC) meetings
  • Identify, address, and communicate any issues related to project/job performance
  • Participate in Phase 1, 2 or 3 meetings as necessary to assure an efficient information flow to the field organization
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) – target TBD
  • Field Retention Rate – target TBD
  • On time employee reviews – target is 100%
  • Project Profitability – target is 0% GM drift


Physical Demands:

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Spends approximately 70% of the time sitting/driving, and 30% of the time either standing or walking while on the job.
  • Occasionally* lifts up to 15 lbs, when moving project binders, office supplies or files, and may stoop, kneel, crouch, and balance while performing these same functions.
  • Occasionally required to climb, crawl, stoop and negotiate ladders, stairs or other routes at and within project sites in order to fulfill duties.
  • Constantly uses verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as E-Mail, telephone and radio.
  • Constantly employs eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery such as computer keyboard.
  • Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to travel to project sites and observe/verify project progress in addition to operating automated office equipment.
